Have We Stopped Dreaming?

Dr King had a dream, but can we say the same thing? You see, it seems that so many of us have given up on dreaming of a better tomorrow and have instead settled for the bleak reality of today. Instead of finding a way to prepare for tomorrow, we are settling for today and doing what it takes, by any means necessary to just survive today. We wear our work on our back, and live in the here and now, fuck what tomorrow brings. We have traded our vision of tomorrow for the sight of today, and I wonder, what would King think? Would he be proud of the accomplishments that we as a people and a country have achieved, or would he be saddened by the decline of morality and hope that plagues our nation and people. In the Black community especially, would he be able to walk down any hood or ghetto, suburb or city and say 'these are my people?" Would the sight of single mothers with multiple babies and young brothas with their pants sagging low make him smile and think the fight he fought was worth it? Would the sight of the homeless man begging for heat or the old woman trying to relive her youth by acting like her granddaughter inspire him to march again? Can we truly say that the dream of yesterday is the reality we want for our tomorrow? Don't get me wrong, we have come so far from the time of segregation and fighting for civil rights, but we so much farther we can go. We didn't achieve when Obama planted his Black behind in a White house, but yeah we've done good. I think we all need to go back and revisit the dream that King had for us, I think we have forgotten and I would do us a hella good to go back and remember. It never hurts to dream, but what's a dream without action?
